What Other Artists Love About Anina's Works

“Anina Porter Fuller responds to nature with an informed eye and a sensitive brush. Her work is evocative, it lingers in the mind…”

- Elaine Benson, Gallery Owner

“If you like the limpid lieder of Franz Schubert and the lyric poetry of Maine’s own Edna St. Vincent Millay, you will certainly appreciate the artwork of Anina Porter Fuller. Her oils are lyrics on canvas. There’s great emphasis upon greenness in her art, in the grass, in the trees, in the bushes, even in the water in some cases…the shady walks into the woods are, to put it mildly, etudes in serenity. Shubert could have composed a song about Fuller’s work; Millay would certainly have done as much in a poem.”

- Ralph Pettee, Writer

Anina's Life as an Artist

“Oil painting has been my lifelong passion. I was fortunate to grow up in an extended family of artists and naturalists whose artistic expression was their unique medium of relating to the natural world and all that is experienced therein. Throughout my childhood and young adulthood, I was encouraged and guided by two uncles, Fairfield Porter (“a complex painter of note”) and Eliot Porter (“father of color photography”).

I learned to “see” from their artistic example and also from my own experiences of nature. Color is what interests me the most. It is thrilling to paint orange and alizarin hawkweed opening to the sun… dazzling morning light reflected on the table… or a vast, still expanse of greenish blue. I choose to see the brilliance in the ordinary things of life.”
